Traveling to A-PLACE-WHERE-HALLOWEEN-DOES-NOT-EXIST. Being a humbug today on a day close to the day on the solar calendar that is dedicated to the horrible. What can we say is horrible? Why dedicate a day to the horrible? The walking dead, yes, is horrible. Ghosts, demons, monsters, vampires, you name it, it is all horrible. After celebrating Sukkot as Jews, the week when we honor our dead ancestors: Abraham and Sarah, etc. we are accosted with Halloween less than one month later. A day of tricks or treats. What does "trick or treat" mean? It means that if you dare not to give me a treat I will hurt you with a trick. This simple phrase "trick or treat" is meant as a threat.
Tree tops covered with hanging loose toilet paper, candy wrappers among beer cans that are thrown out of car windows onto the streets. How can this holiday be a benefit in anyway to society?? Is it just a cute thing to teach a child how to threaten his neighbor with a trick if he does not give him a treat?
Candy, sugar, insulin-raising substances, candy for children to give them a buzz, unhealthy foods that cause diabetes which is one of the most debilitating illnesses one can contrive. Give me candy, give me diabetes. Is diabetes the punishment for forcing your neighbors to give you candy on Halloween, or else! you will get a trick! Diabetes is G-d's way of saying we should not celebrate Halloween, but to keep our children inside on a night when others are breaking Biblical Commandments that oppose the worship of the dead.
