What a joy! To find in your mailbox delivered from your own personal mailman, a letter composed on gorgeous watermarked stationery cream-colored paper written with a pen dipped in ink, to look so beautiful and elegant, like the paper of a covenant, a promise of friendship, someone who likes to write as much as you do, to be a pen pal.
Not to have pen pals that come and go, to have a true bond with a fellow writer who writes for the right reasons, to keep in touch so you both know each other are well.
An inkwell, using penmanship that flows neatly and perfectly, no mistakes on the paper, no letter imperfect, a note like a sacrifice to God being an act of mitzvah, of loving-kindness.
Handwriting in a composition of creative calligraphy, an artist of the word, an artist using one's hands as a way to say "I'm here! I'm praying for you!" A note deserving of a wooden frame behind glass, a note as beautiful as a red rose poignant flower, a way to remember each other, to keep in touch.
To read the letter with a yad, or your pointed finger used like a yad, to savor every word, to be so thankful for a pen pal!
People come and go, but a pen pal can be there for you and will be there for you, with delivered mail, a note of holiness, time for a celebration. Good news on your doorstep!
