Are you or were you ever a victim of theft? Are you now a survivor from this theft victimization? How did it happen? What is your horror story? Was it as scary as a Stephen King horror novel? Like crawling in and out of a vampire's coffin?
Did someone push you down and force money from you? Did they pretend to be beggars but then became thieves? Was your pocket picked? Did they threaten to throw you in the way of Subway Train on its tracks not to get up. Was it a smash and grab, your car window broken into and your purse removed from the front seat of your car?
Did a young man punch you in the mouth when you were riding on a public transportation bus and then grab your purse? Were you standing waiting for a bus and threatened by knife or gun to give the thief all the money in your pocket? Would giving it up save your life?
My Dad thought so. He kept a $50.00 bill of cash in his keychain pocket and kept it there specifically for this occasion. He was at a bus stop and he gave the men, three of them, his $50.00 bill and they took it, did not harm him, and sped away like gangsters in a get away car.
Psychological scars? You betcha! To see and imagine everyone you meet as perhaps being your thief, to walk down a sidewalk and to rehearse your theft incident with passers by. Not knowing who is a thief and who is not.
Whether you were able to get away keeping your property or giving it up, this experience becomes Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. How can we forget, how can we forgive. When this happens to family members, is there a way to get revenge?
All you want is your stolen property back and need no revenge? But he won't relinquish it, he fights with you instead!! So, who goes to jail, him or you? You are the one incited by God to teach him a lesson to not steal, as is one of the Commandments we all must follow from The Torah, but so he is injured but you are not? You then become legally incarcerated in jail because he was hurt physically and you were not. Not fair? Who ever said life was fair??
What good can come from this negative experience? You yourself never to steal from a fellow. If he is not a "fellow" he will steal from you with no guilt. What if it is a "fellow" who is guilty of stealing property from you anyway. Unfortunately Yah, there is Jew against Jew. Just make sure you, your yourself, never steals anything so you do not sink into this tar pit and therefore never have the guilt or incarceration.
