THE MESSIAH ELIJAH AT OUR PASSOVER SEDERS

Image result for journey to the promised land

This Journey, from slavery into Freedom and wandering around the Desert for Forty Years is now a semi-mourning period we as Jews try to understand what slavery is and why slavery is undesirable. Why are we Jews in sadness at this time of the year?

Even though food and shelter in the desert was provided for the Jews from Gd, we as Jews suffered in our wanderings. We even distrusted Moses and wanted to turn around and to go back to slavery. We had very little food. No money. Just tents in which to live. We asked The L-rd for food and He rained it down as Manna, a White Dairy Cream Wafer. The Sea of Reeds parted and we walked away from the fighting. The Egyptians drowned. But where were we headed? We did not know! We put our trust in Gd and Gd alone.

Where is this Promised Land? The Land of Israel showed its beauty to us after Forty Years of us having nothing, no material items.  We learned to sustain ourselves with the bare minimum. Became Free People, enslaved to no one, not imprisoned. As wandering and starving, thirsting. A lack of clothing. Not enough. We desperately needed to provide ourselves with comfort. These conditions our ancestors, our families had to suffer were unbearable.

Now no longer slaves, however we can empathize with slaves because we once were slaves.

What is sad? The poverty of Jews and Gentiles, people without parents, without children, strangers, orphans, divorced, deceased, widowed, Levites (Jewish Priest Tribe not allowed to own property) people in substandard living conditions, unclean water systems, no employment, no food, without enough education... and on and on...

Yes, our herbs are bitter. Our parsley dipped in salt water. Our bread is unleavened. Yeast without water. Fasting mixed with Feasting. A time to understand Elijah, the Beggar Who as The Torah says will be the Messiah! A chair at our Seder table to dine with Elijah.

Elijah bringing you the luck you deserve because you share ten percent of your income with the poor, people like him. Elijah himself being of these Poor: the Righteous, the Merciful, the Good, the Kind, the Generous, the Humble, the Wise, the Wonderful.
