Today I am not traveling anywhere, just sitting at home and watching the Koi fish in my aquarium go round and round. It is a sunny day outside today, a day for some to travel, a day for me to stay home and to nurse a head cold, a sinus infection that has just begun to take hold and will cause me misery for the next week: a good week to stay home.
Homebound, taking care of oneself, drinking plenty of fluids including hot teas. Days to watch TV and put one's feet up, puff a pillow behind one's back, stretch out in bed during daylight hours, and study Torah. Pirkei Avot 3:6--"If one takes on the yoke to study Torah, s/he will not have to work at an occupation." Rabbi said: "What is the one thing that makes one a holy person? It is RESTRAINT."
The Fast of Esther is coming, I have something to look forward to: a reason to heal from my head cold; to be able to be healthy enough in mind and body to be able to Fast: to restrain myself from food and water as a way to afflict myself so I can get closer to Adonai. Yes, health is a very important thing: we must always be healthy enough to Fast.
